John Varley is a barrister and member of the firm's Insolvency & Corporate Restructuring Law Group, and Pensions Law Group.
Practice
John practices in the area of insolvency, commercial reorganization and secured financing transactions. He has advised chartered banks, mezzanine and asset-based lenders and equipment lessors on all aspects of loan placement and pre-enforcement risk, legal priorities, satisfaction of loan conditions, enforcement of security, strategies to reorganize companies in default, and deficiencies in the positions of competing creditors.
John has also developed specialized expertise regarding the pension and benefit plans of enterprises undergoing financial restructuring. He advises companies, employee groups, plan wind-up administrators, and fund custodians on pension plan mergers, terminations, amalgamations and wind-ups, surplus distributions and governance liabilities.
